Audition Requirements - Strings

Violin,
Any movement of Bach Sonata or Partita (SOLO).
First movement of any standard concerto.

Viola,
Any movement of Bach Sonata or Partita or Cello Suite (SOLO).
First movement of any standard concerto.

Cello,
Any movement of Bach Sonata or Partita or Cello Suite (SOLO).
First movement of any standard concerto.

Bass,
Any movement of Bach Sonata or Partita or Cello Suite (SOLO).
First movement of any standard concerto.

Audition Requirements - Woodwinds

Flute,
First movement of any Mozart Concerto.
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.

Oboe,
First movement of Mozart Concerto.
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.

Clarinet,
First movement of Mozart Concerto.
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.

Bassoon,
First movement of Mozart Bassoon Concerto.
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.

Audition Requirements - Brass

Trumpet,
First movement of Haydn Concerto or Arutunian Concerto(from begining to m70).
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.
Additional piece - A jazz standard with improvisation is a huge plus!

Horn,
First movement of a Mozart or Strauss Concerto.
One work of the applicant's choice in a contrasting style from the above.

Tenor Trombone,
Grondahl - Concerto (first page) or Martin - Ballade for Trombone (From the beginning to the Rehearsal No.6)
One etude of applicant’s choice from either Blazhevich, Bordogni, or Kopprasch.
Additional piece - A jazz standard with improvisation is a huge plus!

Bass Trombone,
Bozza - New Orleans
One etude of applicant’s choice from either Blazhevich, Bordogni, or Kopprasch.

Tuba,
First movement of Eric Ewazen - Concerto for Tuba or Bass Trombone.
One etude of applicant’s choice from either Blazhevich, Bordogni, or Kopprasch.

Audition Requirements - Timpani, Percussion, Harp, Piano

Percussion,
A short multiple percussion solo or featured part in chamber percussion, mixed chamber, or solo setting.
It can be from a live rehearsal, recital or a concert. A brief 2-3 minute excerpt is acceptable.

Timpani,
A short solo or etude (3-4 timpani preferred) by Carter, Goodman, Vic Firth, Peters, Delecluse, Schinstine, or equivalent.
Beethoven - Symphony No.9, Mvt. IV. (7 measures after the letter T until the end).

Harp,
One movement from the following works or equivalent.
Hindemith, Sonata, Debussy, Danse sacrée et danse profane, Fauré, Impromptu, Houdy, Sonata, Tailleferre, Sonata

Piano,
One complete sonata by Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven.
One romantic work demonstrating considerable technical accomplishment.
One 20th or 21st century work of your choice.

Students are responsible to submit all required works. (Must be enrolled in a New England area undergraduate program, graduate program, OR have graduated within the last year.)

Amateurs

Amateur players are only responsible to submit the solo work and/or the etude. (And must have a big passion for classical and world music!)
